I am struck by how the text seems to labor on the concept of witnessing to God. God sends John to testify to us about who God is…Light. In 1 John 1:5 the apostle John further clarrifies this concept of God being Light. He is not just Light he is the Light that contains no darkness at all. Within the pages of John the gospel God is revealed a God that is wholly good, wholly Light.
In verse 18 we see a God explained by Jesus who has seen God face to face. Jesus came to explain what we don’t understand (vs.5) because we are too used to the dark. I think of the time I have spent indoors and then walk into the light. I blink, I squint and I see so little.
I am struck by the text… John pointed people to the Light. He witnessed to the Light. When people see me and the way I live do they see more clearly the Light in which there is no darkness? The witness I leave with my life does it point to Jesus? Does it make straight the way of the Lord? Or does it add to the darkness? May we gaze upon the Light until we grow and behold and are forever changed.
Im not sure im following you 4hisglory.
by beholding we become change right?
so as we spend each day with Christ we will grow more accustomed to the light, therefore further from the darkness of sin.
Yes that is true…if we spend each day with Christ… But John says that there was a struggle because the men loved the darkness…
